Students are in small groups and have a hands on approach to learning about the Granary, Detached Kitchen, one of the oldest remaining houses, barn, cemetery and the outhouse. Students also get to experience activities in our one room school house and have a great time with music and story telling. Click here for a view of the day long itinerary.

A field trip to the Gray/Campbell Farmstead provides a fantastic opportunity to enhance your 5th grade curriculum. Just a few of the science and social study topics that may be discussed during your visit include: pioneer life on the Kickapoo Prairie with an emphasis on methods of raising, preserving, and preparing food, finding and recognizing local artifacts, the use of pioneer equipment and tools needed to build a house, outbuildings, and furniture, doing laundry, cutting wood, trapping wild animals, making clothes and the necessity of handing them down, cooking food in a fireplace, the difficulties and fun of attending a rural school in the late 1800s-early 1900s, the necessity of an outhouse, slop jar, and chamber pot, making and repairing shoes, the happiness that comes with a visit by a storyteller, the need of a farm cemetery in the 1800s, the fun of playing with homemade toys, and the great differences between living in SW Missouri in 1860 and today.
